{"id":26047399,"date":"2025-11-27T19:58:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-27T18:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.coflaspalmas.es\/?p=26047399"},"modified":"2025-12-11T09:30:41","modified_gmt":"2025-12-11T08:30:41","slug":"ocho-colegios-profesionales-exhortan-a-los-sanitarios-y-a-la-poblacion-a-vacunarse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coflaspalmas.es\/en\/ocho-colegios-profesionales-exhortan-a-los-sanitarios-y-a-la-poblacion-a-vacunarse\/","title":{"rendered":"Eight professional colleges urge healthcare workers and the public to get vaccinated"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Representatives from the professional colleges of Dentists, Nursing, Pharmacists, Doctors, Podiatrists, Psychology, and Veterinarians from Las Palmas, and the College of Physiotherapists of the Canary Islands, representing approximately 25,000 healthcare professionals, wanted to present a united front today regarding the need for general population vaccination against the flu, and especially for at-risk groups and healthcare workers.<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Loreto G\u00f3mez, president of the College of Pharmacists of Las Palmas, who acted as spokesperson, explained that \u201cdespite what we often hear about sinister intentions of vaccines, the truth, what is really verifiable, are the figures. 12,825 deaths in 2024, a thousand more than in 2023, according to data from the Ministry of Health.\u201d.<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He recalled that \u201cthis figure only accounts for people who have died, not those who are admitted or present very complex medical conditions complicated by asthma, sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, myocarditis, encephalitis, or myositis.\u201d.<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Regarding healthcare professionals, he asserted that as a group they are \u201cmore exposed than others\u201d due to the inherent characteristics of their work, and stated that they can become \u201ctransmitters to the population, to patients, and to their own families. It is the responsibility of each healthcare professional to protect and to protect themselves, and the vaccine is, without a doubt, a valid, safe, and effective means.\u201d.<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-126730 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coflaspalmas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Rueda-de-prensa-vacunacion-contra-la-gripe-27112025-9-RRSS-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"478\" height=\"317\" \/>Regarding the campaign itself, he explained that the goal is to \u201cpropose the relationship of affection between patient and healthcare professional, affirming that we take care of each other, and that we do so out of responsibility and respect.\u201d.<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The press conference concluded with the vaccination of the representatives from the Artiles.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Dean of the Official College of Psychology of Las Palmas, Francisco Javier S\u00e1nchez Eizaguirre.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Secretary of the Official College of Veterinary Profession of Las Palmas, Pablo Varona Cabrera.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Deputy Secretary of the Official College of Physicians of Las Palmas, Marta Le\u00f3n Santana.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>SCS<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Abi\u00e1n Montesdeoca Meli\u00e1n and Raquel Dom\u00ednguez D\u00edaz, responsible technician for the Canary Islands Health Service's immunization program and a technician from the service, respectively, were also present at the press conference to explain that \u201cgetting vaccinated is a necessity, not to avoid catching the flu but to avoid complications that could lead to hospitalization or death.\u201d.<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Montesdeoca stated that \u201cthe new variants can be treated with the current vaccine,\u201d and recalled that \u201cin the Canary Islands, we have not yet reached the peak of the curve\u201d and pointed out that \u201cunlike other years, the flu has come early.\u201d.<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">This participation makes the unity
