The University of Barcelona, in collaboration with the College of Pharmacists of Barcelona, offers the Master of Continuous Training in Orthopedics for Pharmacists. This program is designed to empower pharmacists as responsible technicians in the adaptation and custom manufacturing of orthopedic products, in accordance with Royal Decree 437/2002 of May 10th.

 

The master's program provides the necessary skills to work in orthopedic centers, whether within or outside community pharmacies, ensuring comprehensive and specialized training in the field of orthopedics.

 

The master's degree includes 350 lecture hours, of which more than 150 hours are dedicated to internships. These internships are fundamental for acquiring the necessary skills to dispense orthoses, prostheses, and other orthopedic devices.

 

During the program, students will learn to design, manufacture, and adapt orthopedic devices, as well as advise patients throughout the entire process, which includes taking measurements, fitting, adjustment, and follow-up. This hands-on training ensures that pharmacists are fully prepared to offer a high-quality orthotics service.

 

 

The Master's program addresses both theoretical and practical content, allowing students to:

 

• Master the anatomical, physiological, and pathological knowledge related to orthopedics.
• Design, fabricate, and adapt orthopedic devices.
• Obtain the necessary competence to dispense orthotics, prosthetics, and other devices.
• Advise the patient throughout the entire process (taking measurements, checking, fitting, follow-up).
• Acquire the necessary knowledge to obtain a operating license whether the center is located inside or outside the community pharmacy.
• Understand and be critical of literature pertaining to orthopedic products.
• Apply health legislation affecting the orthopedics sector.
