Loreto Gómez: «We are still waiting for the Administration to open its eyes and see»

«We are professionals trained and qualified to assume the responsibilities that the present demands of us., »And here we will continue waiting for the Administration to open its eyes and see," said the president of the Official College of Pharmacists of Las Palmas, Loreto Gómez Guedes, during her speech at the official event for the Patron Saint's Day, which was held today, November 25th, at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium in the capital of Gran Canaria. The event, attended by the Director General of Social Programs of the Government of the Canary Islands, Antonia María Pérez Pérez, served to honor those celebrating 50 and 25 years as registered pharmacists, as well as to administer the oath to new registrants and officially welcome them.

During his speech, Gómez recalled the role that pharmacists have historically played, stating that in a society where references have been lost, «there iswe follow the pharmacists, assuming responsibilities in hospitals, at analysis, in research, in teaching, in distribution, in primary care in public health, empty spacesAlways visiblebut guinea pigdedication and effort make Canarian healthcare, health system national and the health system World Cup count on a network of skilled workers to give answers to situations tan graves like the one we experienced during the pandemic.». 

He/She indicated that «this society needs changes if we want to improve health-wise,» and recalled that «since the Official College of Pharmacists of Las Palmas we've been doing this for a while working on creating a new way to relate to institutions and colobjective with whom we have common interests, whether by joining forces to present more impactful health campaigns, by signing collaboration agreements, or by supporting prevention strategies through the pharmaceutical network, or using our social media as platforms to support the work that perform other healthcare professionals.

For her part, the Director General recognized the role of professionals and their importance within the Healthcare System. She recalled the need to establish channels for collaboration and predicted joint action plans.

On behalf of the most senior honorees, Margarita Curbelo Araña takes the floor, presenting an interesting overview of the different challenges pharmacists have faced throughout history. Her speech was sprinkled with anecdotes and stories, from sailors who asked for alcohol to take away but tried it in the pharmacy itself, to the serious and sad situation experienced during the most complex years of drug use.

The celebration of this day concluded with a cocktail-style meal and a party enlivened by the band Screensavers, with whom a tour of musical hits from recent decades was made.
