«Knowledge and the importance of prevention in diseases such as sarcopenia and fibromyalgia are fundamental to avoiding their development,» states Agustín Aibar, researcher and associate professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences of Jaén, who gave a training lecture for about thirty professionals, and in which he pointed out that «physical activity and mental health are the main elements that help prevent and treat these types of diseases.».
From the researcher's point of view, «we must work with multidisciplinary teams, including physical therapists, pharmacists, nurses, doctors, and occupational therapists, among others, as it is not only about detection but also about prediction and working to prevent the development of the disease, which will not necessarily develop, but which sedentary lifestyles and certain mental weakness or exhaustion favor.».
Therefore, Aibar asserts that «after surgery or temporary immobilization, physical activity should be resumed as soon as possible,» pointing out that «often, falls are not as dangerous due to direct damage but rather due to patient immobilization, which facilitates muscle mass loss and, therefore, the development of sarcopenia.».
Regarding fibromyalgia, it is noted that «the causes are unknown, but it is known that the psychological component is fundamental, as there are times when even treatments cease to have the desired effectiveness, especially the longer they are.».
Fibromyalgia is a disease that can appear at any time, while sarcopenia has a higher prevalence from 60 years of age.
